Pantone's Colour Of The Year - Revealed!
It is something that I await avidly every year, and it doesn't seem five minutes ago since I was chomping at the bit to find out the colour, or should I say colours of the year, for 2016. Oh sweet Serenity Blue and Rose Quartz. I think I am now in a very small minority of people who is really going to miss these beauties. Not that they are actually going to disappear off the map anytime soon... I had a meeting with a client yesterday who announced that she would like to have a blue and pink colour scheme. I rejoiced inside that I would get to style up my favourite Pantone colour combo for a wedding. I rejoiced even harder when she told me should like to add some rose gold in there too. Mixed metallics and Pantone colours of the year, you guys spoil me.
It is no secret that I am the type of person who gets excited over colours. If you read this blog then I am sure you will have become aware of it. It's been a big part of my life since someone bought me the full Crayola crayon set when I was about six (complete with a stand that looked like a stadium for my little colouring tools) and I memorised every single crayon name. "Are you going to colour the house in red?" my mother would ask me. "BRICK red", I would correct her. *Sassy hair flick*. And in fact it still happens now... my favourite game is asking my boyfriend what colour something is and then laughing at his boyish suggestions. "Well it's not blue is it! It's teal isn't it!" I'm the Hermione Granger of the colouring world (leviosA).
SO, imagine my pure delight when I thought today was going to be a normal day like any other, and in fact it was the day Pantone made their colour announcement for the year. Hello to the year of Greenery! We probably couldn't get a lot further from Serenity Blue or Rose Quartz unless they had chosen black! So I'm sure a lot of people will be happy about this new direction.
The decision of colour of the year is nothing really to do with weddings. It's made from a general style perspective, and as a result affects everything which style has to do with. Which is a lot. Pretty much everything from the clothes you wear, to the food you eat, to what you will see on Pinterest. I've seen enough 'rose quartz' inspired hair rinses on Instagram and Pinterest this year to not be surprised in the slightest if I see a lot of green locks bobbing around over the next 12 months. If you don't like green, my condolences - you are going to be seeing a lot of it this year.
For a lot of people in the styling industry - whatever the capacity - I don't think that this announcement will have come as a great surprise. The trends for 2017 suggested that green could be very much on the cards. For example, one of the hotly tipped wedding trends for weddings this year is the botanical look. I'm not being funny but you can't really achieve this look without even a bit of green, so we were going to be seeing it a lot anyway. On the more interior design side of things, we've heard a lot about "exteriors as interiors" which is why everyone has gone a bit cactus crazy, and has been putting fake grass in their houses. Again, cacti and grass are green (in case you weren't aware) so it was definitely a strong prediction.
But, forget all that! The most important thing is how you can actually achieve this look for your wedding without it looking like you had a fight with a key lime pie, and lost. So take a look below at this inspiration board I have designed for you based on this colour combination:
Okay, Greenery 15-0343 take it away!
